HI

Hey Guys,

The last few months have been pretty hectically busy. Last time I wrote on here I was training in Boise for the week before heading to BC Superweek.
The Australasian VK gang, Lizzie, Miranda and I

Lizzi and I training in Boise

BC was a blast - Vancouver is such a cool city and really reminds me of home which was nice.
BC started with Tour de Delta, 3 days of racing with 2 crits and a UCI road race. I really enjoyed these races, but was just missing the old podium each time, with a 4th in the 2nd Crit and a 5th in the UCI Tour de Delta road race. Whilst I was pleased with these results, I know I could of done better and left me craving the top step.
After tour de delta we had a rest day of racing and then we were back into it with 2 more crits - one of them being the Gastown Critarium in down town Vancouver. This race in so awesome and draws some pretty mega crowds… and with $14000 in prize money up for grabs for each of the pro women and pro men races there was some fast and furious racing which is just the kind I like :)
Unfortunately though things just didn't really go our way in the race. I took my self out on a tight apex corner, not the way I intended on throwing things down ;)
I was just too much in the zone and was bridging to a break and thought I didn't need to break for the corner that was on a slight uphill…. fair to say my bike thought otherwise and I ended up kissing the pavement and leaving some skin in downtown Gastown. Thankfully I was ok, and jumped back in the race, but I was a little hesitant for the remainder of the race, and wasn't my usual self. Coming into the last lap, Elle was starting our lead out for our super sprinter Gillian, but unfortunately our lead out got taken into the barriers and Elle got taken out, which disrupted things a bit, and Gillian rolled in for 4th.

The BC crew (missing Gillian)

After Gastown we headed straight back for Boise twilight. This race was super fun and in the desert heat made for a tough race. We were super active with everyone being up the road at some point, with Elle ending up in the winning break that stuck. She came in 2nd and Tiff and I sprinted in both in the top 10.

After Boise Twilight we were Bend, Oregon bound for the Cascade Cycling Classic. I love Bend, it has such a nice chilled vibe about it. Cascade went really well, our super climber Miranda flew up the climbs and secured a 6th place over all. Rhae saw killed the prolog and the TT for a 3rd and a 4th place. I was happy with my road races and crit races, although definitely have a lot of TT work to do, hopefully one day things will click for me, but at the moment time trials are my definite weakness.

Cascade TT

Post race with Caroline and Miranda... aka Maniacs ;)

After Cascade I had a pretty sweet, but also extremely busy week road Tripping with dad and Jord up the coast from Oregon to NorCal. So much fun hanging with these two, defiantly have a pretty crazy cool family.

Crazy fun sand dune buggy's with the fam

After the road trip we hit the San Rafael Crit in Nor Cal where we all had an awesome race, with some pretty sweet team work and some mega aggressive racing, and Elle got the WIN! Witch was pretty cool!!

After San Rafael I had 2 nights at my USA home with the Lovely Merrit’s in Sunnyvale, then it was back on the road to race the Ceder city GP and the Tour of Utah Women’s Edition.

These races were so cool, and it was great to have a Women’s race at the Tour of Utah!
The first race, Ceder City GP was going really well for me, I was feeling great and had perfect position coming into the last lap, when unfortunately my wheel and another riders wheel came in contact and both of us got all our spokes ripped out….and my wheel would no longer spin which unfortunately ment race over and I had to walk. I was so gutted as I knew I was feeling really good, and the sprint suited me as it was slightly uphill, but hey thats bike racing right and shit happens. Plus we still had the Tour of Utah Women’s edition race on wednesday that I was now even more determined for.

Training in Utah with the lovely DNA ladies

Utah training

The ToUWE race was so cool. We raced on the Larry Millar race car track witch made for some super fast racing. I was feeling really good again, and as we only had 4 rider in the race (compared to most teams had 8) Tiffany and I decided to use other lead out trains for the finale. We were in a pretty good posi coming round the second to last sweeping corner where unfortunately the pace dropped just slightly and we got swarmed. The sprint was so incredibly fast with a huge tail wind the positions did not change much at all coming out of the last corner, so I had to settle for 10th, which disappointed with as I know I could of done better.

I have spent the last 4 weeks at altitude, with 2 weeks in Utah staying with the Lovely Kim’s, a week in Boulder, Colorado with some great friends and then a week in Steamboat Springs, Colorado with my teammate Amy and her Husband Matt. I seriously love Colorado - my fav state in the USA.

Trying to get home before the storm in Boulder with Court Lowe - we made it... just :)

I am now on my way back to Cali for 10 days of sea level training before heading to Italy to race the Giro Della Toscana - Can’t wait :)

Talk soon,

North Star GP.....

After another loooong drive from Tulsa to Minnesota we arrived for the North Star GP. I really like this race, the courses generally suit me, and this year we had some pretty EPIC weather.

I will keep this nice and brief, but over all we had a pretty successful stage race with VK getting 2 stage wins and 2 3rd places. I finished the tour so so smashed, the bad weather really took the pain cave to whole new level. There were 3 crits and 2 road race, plus a prolog TT. 160km road race turned pretty epic with extreme cross winds for the entire race.... a lot of gutter time does not equal fun time. The other road race was 140km of torrential rain and thunder and lightening storms. This race turned out pretty epic too, with the decants being actually more challenging (especially mentally) than the uphills, I was happy to make the lead group of 25 :)
Post rainy road race - muddy and Messy - with Gillian who took the WIN!!!!
North Star Crit action...

In the pain cave up the Stillwater Climb - 25%!!!!

Lizzie and I

After North Star a few of us headed to Dairylands to race a few crits there. I did the first 4 day, enjoying a 7th on 2nd day and a 6th in the NCC grafton Crit. We picked up a nice lot of price $$ and Lizzie and I flew out of Chicago to meet Miranda in Boise, Idaho on Monday. I have spent this week chilling out in Boise and recharging the battery before a bit of training and then BC super week in Vancouver next week, followed Boise Twilight and then Cascade where Dad and my Brother Jordan are coming for a visi... can't wait to see them :)

TULSA TOUGH!

Yeeeow possibly the most fun crit series there is… ever!

We had a great 3 days of hard fast racing! I spent a lot of time on/ off the front working for our team sprinters Gillian Carlton and Lizzie Williams! I got a hole lotta new PRs i.e., max HR and Ave power… ouch.

We had so much fun, took out some big $$ ($1000) preims and finally we pulled everything together on the last day for lizzie to take out 2nd! Woooop. So cool for everyone to be riding so well together and in for the win… hopefully the win will come this week with North Star Gran Prix… previously known as Nature Valley! I really like this race and the courses generally suit me with technical crits, long long road races and a hilly little circuit race to finish which is super fun!

Below are some pics from tulsa :

Stay tuned for North Star update :)

Philly!

The Philly cycling classic is done and dusted for another year. This race is always one of my favouring of the season, the course is awesome, the crowds are all ways big and there is just an all round cool atmosphere. Aaaand this year was even cooler with both the women and men having having equal prize money… how awesome is that!

Gillian, Miranda, Me, Lizzie, Amy, Elle

VK rode such a good race, we had a really strong team heading into the race and all worked together so well. We set things up nicely for super strong Aussie team mate Lizzie Williams who came in 6th. So smiles all round!

I felt super good all race, unfortunately Miranda (Aussie super climber), Amy and I all got stuck in a crash right before going up the climb the 4th time (we finished up it on the 5th lap) and spent a whole lot of energy chasing back on to the front group. We had to chase so hard and finally caught back on halfway through the final lap - all pretty much well and truly spent! Gillian and Elle were super stars on the flats - stringing out the pelo and I used my positing skills to get the girls in a good posi coming into the climb up the wall.
Miranda and I chasing up the wall after crash

Such a fun race and I am sad it’s over! But excited for what’s next… Tulsa tough and probably one of my fave crits… cry baby hill!!

Stay tuned for more reg update….

Currently on a 21hour van ride to tulsa…. fuuuuun times! ;)

Next 2 months of Suitcase Livin'

HI!

Things here have definitely been going in the upwards direction for me since my last post! :) :) wooohoo. Bout time. Finally I am feeling good, and it looks like all signs of my viral fatigue, low iron, and bad health that has come my way this year has gone! Thank god!

2 weeks ago I raced the women’s race at the Amgen tour of California. A Circuit race in downtown Sacramento. Although it would of been awesome to have a whole stage race like the men… it was pretty cool to get a women’s circuit race in addition to the invitational time trial the following day.

The race was so much fun! Although a pan flat, four corner, 2 mile circuit is not exactly my forté, I loved every single moment of it! I felt amazing! The crowds so were huge and you could hardly hear your self think! …. it was so so very cool!

We were working for our Canadian super sprinter Gillian Carlton, and were pretty confident going into the race that she was one of the strongest sprinters in the 125 rider field. I went a bit OTT on the old attacking/ covering side of things, and even managed to get the race prime. with 3 laps to go Liza and I were positioning Gillian for the sprint when Liza unfortunately crashed out and Gillian got stuck behind. She powered her way back to the front group but it was all little to late, and unfortunately we could only pull off 10th. Although we didn't get the big W - we had awes team work and I’m sure the results will come in the very near future.

After our race was over, A few of us including my Kiwi galpal Court Lowe headed up Mt. Diablo to watch the finish of the mens stage 3…. we got super lucky and some how got treated to some VIP treatment up the top of the mountain right on the finish line, with lunch, shade, TV’s to watch the race before the finish as well as couches and bean bags to relax in! Luxury ;)
Was such a fun day…. but hopefully next year we can race up it too!!

Right now I am mid flight on my way to the East coast for our next big block of racing. We are straight into it tomorrow with Miranda and I racing the Tour of Sommerville Crit in New Jersey… Quick turn around but hopefully the legs pull up all gee.

After Sommerville I have a pretty FULL ON schedule for the next 2 months. With something like 29days of racing in the next 2 months… eeeek! I am so amped to get racing!!!!

Next up is Philly this Sunday - one of my favourite races of the year!!

Some more news - a huge thanks to Accru Charted accountants Auckland for helping me out this season along with Haydn & Rollet and MSC!

El Salvador....Adventure?

HEY!

So it has taken me a while to write this post as I was not sure I wanted to relive the memories. Here is a VERY breif description of the El Salvador desastor that we and most other team experienced.

Our team had:

Too many punctures to count
9 days of racing
2 rest days
6 crashes
2 chest infections
6 colds
1 La Feminina Jersey.... hahaaa
Race helicopter that crashed.
we rode past 2 bush fires, one of which I could of touched if I reached out to it.
Numerous times we had crazy drives flying at us when the road were suppose to be closed.
Fighting traffic if you happened to be dropped from the front group... man eating potholes, wild dogs... you get the picture ;) yeeeah fun times.

As well as this, we did also meet some amazing local El Salvadorians. The people of El Salvador are so kind and generous - they are def the highlight!

Enjoying some dirt roads on one of the rest days

La Feminina Jersey...

I happened to pick up a nasty chest infection on about the 3rd day we were there.... the doctor told me it was pneumonia... but I don't really beleive that. Any way 12 days of antibiotics and I thought I would be good to go for our next block of racing: San Dimas, redlands and sea otter.

San Dimas I was still suffering from the nasty chestie so I only par took in the first stage, which was disappointing as I really love that race... but was better for the long run. The girls had a great race how ever. Redlands things started off not so good, but each day I was feeling better so that was good... until I crashed out of the crit (2nd to last stage) with what I though was a broken elbow. But lucky for me I can still claim to of never broken any bones.... must be kiwi eh!!!

Me, Korina and Miranda

Sea otter went really well for VK, super stomper Amy Charity was on fire and with solid team work we amy got a lot of podium time.

Courteney and I :) :)

Korina being a top team mate and piggy backing me after a long day of sponsor duties :)

Now I am back in the bay area and I am finally for the first time in a long time feeling 100% healthy. Not sure what has been going on with my immune system this year, but it has not been working out for me! Been dousing on the Vit C, and sipping every sort of immune boosting tea I can find. Think its finally working!!!
Now I have a solid training block to get me back to full fitness and back into the swing of things, with a few local races thrown in. My next big race being the Amgen Tour of California women's circuit race. I can't wait!

Right now we are gearing up for a token Kiwi/ Aussie ANZAC bbq in the park tomo night. Miranda's on the AZAC biscuits and I'm on the pav... hopefully it can top last years one ;) ;)

Korina, Miranda and I - The wonderful Deb Tracey Photography!

Any way...dinner time!

ReSTART

HEY!
Okay… so I know it has been a long while since I last updated this thing, so as not to bore and wright a full on essay I’m going to Restart with this year.

So what’s been happening?! – I had a fairly average NZ summer of racing. I kept thinking I was taking a long time to get my fitness back after finishing last season with injury – so I was training the house down, having some good days but also having a hard time recovering. Thinking I was just unfit I kept going… and going until I could not go any more. The old confidence certainly took a hammering and I really started to doubt myself. A Doctor visit and a blood test I found out I had low iron and post viral fatigue from possibly either a virus I had in November or earlier in 2013 that had been affecting me all summer long. Awesome. Hm. No, but I am super happy to now know what has been dragging me down – and start to believe in my self again and be healthy for what I hope is going to be an awesome 2014!

Apart from bad health I did however have a pretty awesome summer hanging out with friends and family – it's going to sounds cliché but every year I seriously love NZ more and more… can't get
enough!

I am very lucky this year to have some wonderful personal support from some awesome businesses that are playing a huge role in helping me achieve my goals! So a huge THANKS to:

Okay so now on to VK!!!

On Thursday I flew out from AK to SF to join VK for TC(team camp... keeping with the abbreviations ;) )
This year we have a team of 12 plus 3 development riders which is going to be groooovy!
Camp was busy but fun to meet all the team, catch up with old and new team mates and friends – although was missing my kiwi back up gal Sophie who is back home training for track nationals. 3 aussies vs 1 kiwi was a bit hard…. But I think I matched them well ;)

My fave day of team camp would have to be the day we had a beautiful hilly ride up kings mountain and west Old la’honda with a pre ride coffee stop at Terun (BEST ITALIAN IN PALO ALTO) followed by an arvo at the day spa J quick team debrief and then team dinner back at Terun! Perfecto!!
